An Israeli air raid killed Hamas political figure Salah al-Bardaweel in Khan Younis in southern Gaza, Hamas and Palestinian media said in the early hours of Sunday.Israel resumed its hostilities in Gaza on Tuesday, striking sites across the conflict-torn territory and breaking a weeks-long stalemate over extending the ceasefire that halted fighting in January, with hundreds of fatalities reported by Palestinian health ministry officials.
In addition to Bardaweel, a political office member of the group, his wife was also killed in the airstrike, report quoted pro-Hamas media. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has routinely expressed that the central goal of the war is to wipe out Hamas as a military and ruling force, with the comment that the goal of the new campaign is to make the group relinquish remaining hostages.
On Friday, the Israeli military announced that it had killed the Hamas military intelligence commander in southern Gaza. In a statement, the Israeli military identified the Hamas commander as Osama Tabash, adding that he was also the commander of the militant group's intelligence and targeting unit.
